Eco-volunteers of the Omsk Region held a strategic session at Omsk SAU

On February 25, Omsk State Agrarian University hosted an event organized by the Omsk regional branch of the All-Russian Public Organization of Environmental Volunteers "Delai!" The strategic session of environmental volunteers was called "The Future of Eco Volunteering in the Omsk Region".

Representatives of public volunteering groups and organizations, school associations, the Omsk Region volunteering resource center, representatives of regional environmental organizations participated in the strategic session.

Due to the COVID-19 circumstances, the session was held in mixed format. One part of it was held at Omsk SAU, while the other at the same time was held in Vkontakte and Instagram social networks. The session was open to anyone who would like to join it, and discuss the issues on agenda. Answers and proposals given during the session were taken into account when planning the development of the regional branch of "Delai" eco-volunteering group.

The agenda of the strategic session included the following issues:

  • - presentation of the public movement of environmental volunteers of Russia "Delai!"
  • - introduction to the team of the Omsk regional branch;
  • - planning the activities of the "Delai" regional office for the nearest years.

More the 50 people attended online and offline events of the session. Participants discussed such regional projects and activities as propaganda of separate waste collection, recycling, water cleaning and protection, and environmental education.

Zhanna Shmidt, Omsk SAU Vice-rector for social work and youth policy addressed the participants with a welcoming speech and offered them to organize a similar event of a larger scale in future, attended by more people. She noted that it would allow discussing prospects of organizing joint events and projects.

The chairman of "Delai!" eco-movement made a presentation of his organization. Andrey Rudnev spoke about the history of the organization and the major environmental projects and events implemented by "Delai!" members. He shared his plans for the coming year and invited everyone to participate in all-Russian environmental projects.

Gulnara Mukasheva, Head of the Center for Social and Environmental Initiatives, described her experience in implementing environmental projects and invited everybody to participate in the federal environmental projects "Clean Games" and "Let's Do It".

Nina Popolzukhina, Chairman of Omsk eco-organization "Earth - our common home" and Omsk SAU Professor at the Department of Ecology, Natural Resources Management and Biology, also participated in the strategic session. She spoke about the activities of the "Earth - our common home" members, and noted that it would be great to host a number of joint events with organizations whose representatives were present at the strategic session.

An activist of the "Operation E: ecotrails - ecovolunteers – eco-education" project, Yulia Perepelyuk together with the Head of the volunteers of the Omsk Regional School of the Labor Group, an activist of the Children's Regional Council of the Russian Schoolchildren Movement, the author of the project "Environmental action, "EkoSelfi" Anton Timofeev described their environmental projects.

Anastasia Klimenko, a youth activities coordinator at the regional youth center, a representative of the resource center for the development of volunteering in the Omsk Region, spoke about the scheduled events of the regional volunteer community and invited everyone to participate in these events.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Department of Ecology, Natural Resources Management and Biology - Olga Nezhevlyak, acting head of the Department, and Oksana Konovalova, a youth activities coordinator. Dmitry Romanenko, Executive Director of the Omsk Biocluster Association, was a guest of the event.

Participants of the session identified the main environmental issues that require an integrated approach such as the lack of separate collection of waste sand waste sorting enterprises, illegal dumping, water pollution and the destruction of life under water, air pollution, urbanization and construction of rest areas for citizens, as well as the development of ecotourism, and raising people awareness regarding ecology.
