Omsk SAU staff discussed green economy at the International Summit of the Presidential Program participants

On May 27, a panel discussion "Current challenges for the green economy" was held at the International Summit of the Presidential Program "Omsk Dialogue-2022". The agenda was ESG and eco-friendly economy. The event was organized in AO "Agency for the Development and Investments of the Omsk Region" and supported by Omsk public organization "Community of the Presidential Program Participants" and the Center of Business Education of Dostoevsky Omsk State University.

Attendees of the event discussed economic development in the context of "green" future that is primarily focused on finding balance between ensuring competitiveness and eco-friendliness to preserve natural resourses for as long as possible. The consequences of climate change and government measures aimed at minimizing their negative effects affect inflation, economic growth, employment, consumption, which, in their turn, seriously affect decision-making in the field of monetary policy.

Omsk SAU representatives were among those who made presentations. Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Head of the International Relations Department Oksana Kozlova made a report called "Green Economy as a basis for the new world economic model: problems of transformation". She emphasized contradictions in approaches to green economy development and formation of a new ideology based on climate agenda issues.

Then, Vice-rector for Economics and Informatization of Omsk State Agrarian University, Candidate of Economic Sciences Vitaly Pomogaev presented his report "Carbon protectionism: climate change and the new economic realities".  He focused on assessing the impact of protectionism and new measures to regulate climate change on world trade, and analyzed the prospects for decarbonization for Russia. Vitaly Pomogaev also emphasized that the global climate threat for Russia is more relevant than for many other countries — in the last 40 years, climate warming was happening 2.5 times than in the world in general.

The event participants, representatives of federal and regional commissions, HEIs, resource centers, large, medium and small businesses also considered the potential of creating green regions and indicator groups to assess their activities. They also identified problems of promoting ecological thinking among the population and discussed the university potential in the field of training staff for green economy, which also includes close cooperation with enterprises.
