The Omsk State Agrarian University project has been selected for participation in the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Agriculture until 2030

Over the next eight years, Omsk State Agrarian University, together with the breeding farm of OOO «Druzhba» of the Marianovsky district, will carry out breeding work to improve cattle of the Hereford breed. The total amount of financing is 802.4 million rubles.

The results of the selection of complex scientific and technical projects that will be implemented within the framework of the subprogram "Improving the genetic potential of beef cattle" of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Agriculture for 2017-2030 have become known. The Omsk SAU project was among the 6 winners from all over Russia.

The project "Development and implementation of the program of targeted selection and breeding work on the formation of a highly productive breeding herd of beef cattle based on marker and genomic selection" will be implemented jointly with the breeding farm of OOO «Druzhba» of the Marianovsky district. The company has the status of a breeding reproducer for cattle breeding since 2017 and specializes in the Hereford breed. On its basis, scientific research of the university will be conducted. The head of the research work is the Dean of the Faculty of Zootechny, Commodity Science and Standardisation Kosenchuk Olga Vitalievna.

The project is designed for 8 years, from 2023 to 2030. As a result, it is expected to improve the genetic potential of Hereford cattle and increase their meat productivity. In the future, the company plans to organize the production of marbled beef.

The total amount of financing is 802.4 million rubles. The funds will be used for the construction, arrangement of the livestock complex and maintenance of experimental groups of animals, the creation of laboratories, research and training of specialists.

In 2023, the Omsk State Agrarian University plans to create Regional Scientific and Practical Center in the field of animal husbandry. It will focus on genetic research and breeding work, as well as research on the quality of products and feed.

As part of the genotyping and improvement of the genetic potential of animals, a database of animal genotypes will be created, including more than 3,400 genetic passports of animals. Statistical data processing and annual modeling of crossing options for newly progenotyped animals will be handled by the Digital Situation Center of the Omsk State Agrarian University.

To train personnel under the new educational program "Modern genomic technologies in cattle breeding", the project provides for the development of additional professional programs (a professional development program and a professional retraining program). It is planned to train 140 specialists in total.

Reference information

The Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Agriculture for 2017-2030 (hereinafter referred to as the FSTP) is aimed at ensuring stable growth in the production of agricultural products obtained through the use of seeds of new domestic varieties and breeding products, technologies for the production of high-quality feed, animal feed additives and medicines for veterinary use, pesticides and agrochemicals of biological origin, processing and storage of agricultural products, raw materials and food, modern diagnostic tools, methods of quality control of agricultural products, raw materials and food and examination of genetic material.

FSTP is carried out by implementing subprograms for individual, highly-demanded types of agricultural products, raw materials and food. Subprograms are complex scientific and technical programs that correspond to the direction of the implementation of the FSTP and include all stages of the innovation cycle from obtaining scientific and (or) scientific-technical results and products to their practical use, the creation of technologies, products and services and their entry into the market.

The subprogram "Improving the genetic potential of beef cattle" is aimed at ensuring stable growth in the production and sale of high-quality agricultural products in beef cattle breeding, achieved as a result of the development and introduction of new technologies, improving the existing ones in the field of genetics, selection and breeding, modern production technologies and product quality control, as well as the examination of genetic material.
