An Hour of Reflection for College Students within the Framework of the Youth Project Make the Right Choice

As part of the subprogram Youth of the City of Omsk under the municipal program Development of Physical Culture, Sports, and Youth Policy, the Administration of the Soviet Administrative District of the City of Omsk is implementing the informational youth project Make the Right Choice.

On February 20, students of the University College of Agribusiness attended another meeting within the framework of this project.

Life is full of many interesting and tempting opportunities, and youth is precisely the age when one wants to try everything. To help young people make the right choice, a meeting was organized with representatives of various organizations.

Psychiatrist-narcologist Elena Anatolyevna Korneeva of the outpatient-polyclinic department for children of the Omsk Regional Narcological Dispensary focused her speech on three types of addictions common among young people today: alcohol, smoking, and drugs. She placed youth alcoholism first, noting that it develops rapidly with the consumption of beer and cocktails, since these drinks contain substances that can cause dependence as early as the tenth day of consumption. In conclusion, Elena Anatolyevna also highlighted the risks associated with electronic cigarettes, drawing special attention to their harmful effects on the upper respiratory tract.

Acting Head of the Department of Preventive Work, epidemiologist of the Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS and Infectious Diseases Ksenia Vladimirovna Lugovina shared infection statistics with the students and spoke about measures for HIV prevention.

It is well known that when a person is engaged in meaningful activity, they have no time for reckless behavior. On how students can spend their leisure time outside of studies, Lilia Vasilievna Korshun, Deputy Director of the Omsk Youth Multifunctional Center, gave a presentation. She spoke about different types of activities and hobbies available for young people aged 16 to 25, including information about clubs and opportunities to participate in youth projects run by the Omsk Youth Multifunctional Center, such as Crystal Kitchen, Creative Laboratory, Men’s Conversation, I Live and Work in Omsk, Robotics, and others.

Youth specialist of the Omsk Youth Multifunctional Center and head of the project Mirror, Elena Viktorovna Shmakova, emphasized the importance of taking care of not only the body but also the soul. She demonstrated how the “soul becomes ill” and how it should be “treated”, spoke about therapeutic projects, and invited students to participate.

The meeting turned out to be both informative and diverse. Each student found something useful for themselves: many noted the value of information about preventing substance abuse, while others discovered new and interesting youth spaces in the city of Omsk.

The topic of preventing addictions among young people has always been relevant, but today it is especially pressing. It deserves close attention not only in terms of protecting health but also, given the current geopolitical situation, in terms of the security of society as a whole.

Organizers of the event: the Department of Social Policy of the Administration of the Soviet Administrative District of the City of Omsk; Leading Specialist S.V. Selezneva; Chief Specialist E.N. Lysenko; Social Educator I.G. Volkova; and Educational Psychologist L.G. Epanchintseva.
