The history of Omsk State Agrarian University named after P.A. Stolypin dates back to the first half of the 20th century. The University, throughout its history, has always played a significant role not only in the field of education but also, realising its responsibility towards society, in the social life and development of the country. Founded in February 1918, the University has been developing and continuously establishing new educational programmes and exploring new fields of research. Along with an ongoing transformation of its organisational and legal form, the University has never stopped producing high-qualified, fully devoted staff for the labour market: more than eighty-one thousand people have graduated since 1918. By September 2015 the total number of enrolled students has reached 9,665 people.
Nowadays, Omsk State Agrarian University is a large science-and-research centre with a highly developed infrastructure which includes 8 different faculties, 3 institutes, and a branch in the town of Tara. Our University can offer a diverse range of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses, meeting the demands of many peculiar interests and covering 11 aggregative groups of specialties and programme tracks: earth sciences, biological sciences, agriculture, forestry and fishery, veterinary medicine and animal husbandry, industrial ecology and biotechnology, technosphere safety and environmental engineering, geodesy, economics, operation of transport and technological machinery and systems, etc.
Baccalaureate (undergraduate study)
The baccalaureate is a level of higher education. According to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Decree 12.09.2013 No. 1061 “On the approval of the list of specialities and programme tracks”, upon completion students are awarded the qualification of “Bachelor”.
Applicants who have completed general secondary education, vocational secondary education or higher education are eligible to apply for a bachelor’s programme.
The academic workload of a bachelor’s programme amounts to 240 credits. The intramural training period, including the holidays following the federal state examination, covers 4 years. Mixed and extramural training periods exceed intramural up to no less than 6 months and no more than 1 year.
Types of bachelor’s programme:
- Applied baccalaureate. The programme is primarily focused on practice-oriented and applied types of professional activity.
- Academic baccalaureate. The programme is primarily focused on science-and-research and pedagogical types of professional activity.
Master’s programme (graduate study)
The master’s programme is a level of higher education. According to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Decree 12.09.2013 No. 1061 “On the approval of the list of specialities and programme tracks”, upon completion students are awarded the qualification of “Master”.
Applicants who have completed higher education (bachelor’s degree) are eligible to apply for a master’s programme.
The academic workload of the master’s programme amounts to 120 credits. The intramural training period, including the holidays following the federal state examination, covers 2 years. Mixed and extramural training periods exceed intramural up to no less than 3 months and no more than 6 months.
Types of master’s programme:
- Applied master. The programme is primarily focused on practice - oriented and applied types of professional activity.
- Academic master. The programme is primarily focused on science-and-research and pedagogical types of professional activity.
Postgraduate course
Postgraduate courses are a level of higher education. Upon completion of the programme, according to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Decree 12.09.2013 No. 1061 “On the approval of the list of specialities and programme tracks”, graduates are awarded the qualification of “Researcher. Teacher-researcher”.
Applicants who have completed higher education (specialist’s or master’s degree) are eligible to apply for a postgraduate course.
The postgraduate academic workload is regulated by corresponding programme track standards and may amout to 180 or 240 credits.
The types of professional activity of postgraduates are reduced to science-and-research activity in the corresponding scientific field and teaching activity in higher education curricula.

Research priorities at Omsk State Agrarian University named after P.A. Stolypin are focused on core state, federal and regional programmes regarding the socio-economic development of the Russian Federation and of Omsk Region and are fully aligned with strategic statements (See Omsk SAU research priorities for more detailed information).
The University infrastructure offers a wide range of facilities aimed at improving the educational process and provides all means to help students expand their findings and to support their intellectual endeavours:
- Scientific Agricultural Library of Omsk SAU.– The library collection counts over 6,000 documents, available in Russian, English and several other languages. The legacy left behind by our ancestors since the XVI century is available to each student and can be easily found at http://lib.omgau.ru. The Scientific Agricultural Library of Omsk SAU is deservedly included in the “All-Russian Corpus of Book Heritage” and is a member of the Russian Library Association, with an increasing number of visitors served every year (over 15,000 in 2014).
- University Museums – The University museum funds amount to over 3,350 items and include some of the rarest pieces in each scientific field (zoology, parasitology, anatomical pathology, soil science, etc.).
- Botanic Garden – Founded in 1927, it is the second oldest botanic garden in Siberia and the Far East. The Omsk SAU Botanic Garden is listed in the international gardening catalogue “World Botanic Gardens” and is a member of the Siberian and Far East Council of Botanic Gardens. The varied plant life of the garden covers a 2.83 ha area of the University campus, which is enough to harbour a collection of over 1,000 plant species. The dense vegetation of the garden includes 250 varieties of medicinal herbs, a wide assortment of flowering plants, let alone 21 plant species listed in the Red Book of Omsk Region.
- Arboretum. The so-called “Green pearl”, covering a 10 ha area, is home to over 400 plant species with a diverse range of vegetation: larch, spruce, Siberian pine, linden, oak, white-cedar, juniper, lilac, etc.
- Campus life. The University has three campuses, two of which are located in the Omsk city area, while the third is in the town of Tara. The Omsk SAU infrastructure offers a wide range of facilities aimed at improving the educational process and provides all means to help and support students: a practical training and marketing centre, a business incubator, a gardening centre, as well as co-working and linguistic centres.
Our international partnership network counts more than 100 foreign institutions and embraces over 20 countries, including Austria, Armenia, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Italy, the People's Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mexico, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, Slovenia, the USA, Croatia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Sweden, France, Finland, Japan, etc. (See Omsk SAU partnership network for more detailed information).
Due to its solid international ties, Omsk SAU has excellent records of its participation in international projects: since the early 2000s international cooperation history has included a range of different projects in the frame of Tempus, Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus + programmes (See Omsk SAU project history for more detailed information).
