About us

In February 2018, Omsk SAU as a Russian higher education institution turned 100 years old. In April 2019, there was another anniversary – 25 years in the status of the University.

In 2019, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture nominated Omsk State Agrarian University one of 10 leading agrarian universities. The decision was based on the results of a comprehensive assessment of the University's activities. Also, when selecting the leading Universities, the Ministry paid attention to the implementation of the threshold values of the selection criteria by the HEIs.

Omsk SAU cooperates with more than 100 universities and organizations from 21 countries in the field of science and education. More than 30 international projects and programs, including dual-diploma programs, are being implemented. Now Omsk SAU has established 45 sustainable partnerships from 5 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation countries.  

 The University has a huge authority at the regional, national and international levels in the field of scientific developments for the agri-industrial complex. Over the past 20 years, the University has received more than 500 patents and certificates for intellectual property, including 12 patents for achievements in the field of selective breeding: varieties of soft spring wheat, green and grain beans. The research infrastructure includes more than 20 modern research laboratories equipped with unique equipment, including the only hydraulic laboratory East to the Ural mountains.

The University has a developed infrastructure for effective practical training of students: a research and experimental farm, a veterinary clinic, endoscopic surgery center, training center for processing materials, information and research centers for collective use.

Currently, the University has established and successfully developed 28 schools of thought and 11 research areas, and there are 3 dissertation councils. 

The following institutions have been successfully established: the first regional center in Russia – the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT); the Center for intensification of applied research that consists of two breeding and seed centers combined with enterprises, and a seed center based on the University's research and experimental facilities. As the main result of the centers' activity, more than 40% of Omsk SAU fields are planted with wheat varieties created at the University. In addition, the achievements of Omsk State Agrarian University in the field of grain crop selection are actively used in other regions of Western Siberia, as well as in the southern Urals and Northern Kazakhstan.

The University has conducted successful research work in the field of improving global food and environmental security, sustainable development of rural territories, innovation in production, improvement of technical equipment of agricultural industries. These are the key directions of the Federal Program for Scientific and Technical Development of Agriculture (FPSTD).  The University together with its partners has prepared 2 major projects - one on wheat varieties breeding and another one in the field of functional dietetic nutrition. These projects correspond to the aims of FPSTD. 

A digital demonstration site is being created on the basis of the University, and its main elements are: "Smart greenhouse" with agri-robots; automated information system  "Agrometeorology" with a modernized weather station; "Smart field" on the basis of the educational and experimental facilities of the University;  the digital educational online platform "University open to the region".

The University is developing innovative infrastructure. A business incubator, an innovative learning center for processing of materials, a co-working center, a project office, a student design Bureau and 3 small innovative enterprises were created, and now they are successfully operating. Omsk SAU organizes the regional school "UMNIK" in the direction of "Biotechnology".

The total square of the campus real estate is 195.21 thousand square meters, including 105.19 thousand square meters used for the educational and laboratory base, and 69.40 thousand square meters used for dormitories. All students are provided with rooms in dormitories. On the main campus and on the campus of the Tara Branch there are 32 educational facilities, 16 dormitories, 4 health centers, 1 food enterprise with an extensive infrastructure (6 canteens and 5 lunchrooms), and 1 canteen in the Tara Branch. The total area of public catering facilities is 5256.8 square meters, the total number of seats is 665. There is an infrastructure for social and educational activities, including 10 gyms, a swimming pool, 6 event halls with 1 524 seats.
