The Scientific Agricultural Library

About the Library

The Scientific Agricultural Library was established in 1918, and it is the oldest University-based agricultural library in Siberia. The Library contains book in difference science areas, and these books were collected from different organizations, agricultural laboratories, colleges, and private libraries of Omsk.

Today, the Scientific Agricultural Library is one of the main holders of agricultural science works in the Western Siberia. The total number of them is 900 thousand copies. The Library's electronic resources are represented by internal and external full-text bibliographic databases. The rare book collection, containing more than 6000 documents, is especially valuable, as it contains publications of the XVI - XX centuries in Russian and foreign languages. The Library is included in the "All-Russian Code of Book Heritage."

The library is operating using the IRBIS library automation system.

Departments of the Scientific Agricultural Library are located in three buildings near the academic buildings of Omsk SAU.

In 2010, the construction of the main building of the Scientific Agricultural Library was completed. The main building is designed for 241 seats, and 52 of them are equipped with computers, so visitors can use external media and access the Internet. In addition to the traditional reading rooms, there are a conference hall with 94 seats equipped with modern equipment for holding seminars, meetings, Internet conferences, a bibliographic service, a service center, computer and lecture halls, and a winter garden. 

Information for readers

How to join the Library

To join the Scientific Agricultural Library, you should follow "Rules of using Scientific Agricultural Library of FSBEI HE Omsk SAU named after P.A. Stolypin." You should be enrolled into the Omsk SAU students list. You can get this list at your Dean's office.

When joining the Library individually, you should have the following documents: your passport and a paper from HRs (if you are an employee of the University). If you're not studying or working at Omsk SAU, you need to have your student ID, your photo 3x4 sm, a passport, a certificate confirming that you are doing postgraduate or doctoral studies, and your transcript of records.

After providing the necessary documents, you'll be given your Reader's card allowing you use all the resources of the Scientific Agricultural Library.

You will be asked to read and sign the Conditions of using the Library.

Users are registered at the Scientific Agricultural Library at the User registration section, as well as at the Educational and scientific sections of the Library, and at the Service Department of secondary vocational education.

What a reader needs to know

About the reader's card:

  • a reader's card is a pass to enter a library, it should be used when making order or renewing literature, when doing annual re-registration;
  • if you lose a reader's card, it is necessary to issue a duplicate;
  • it is forbidden to lend your reader's card, as well as to use other people's reader's cards.

About your rights:

  • students and employees of the Omsk SAU have the right to use the main Scientific Agricultural Library services for free: to get documents for temporary use; to get the full information on about Library collection using the system of catalogues, electronic databases and other forms of library informing. You also can use the Advisory help in search and choice of information sources; you can extend the term of using the books; participate in informational and educational events held by the library.
  • Also, there is an option of getting other services for a fee.

About your responsibilities:

  • users must take care of documents received from the Library collection;
  • they must return the library documents in time;
  • in case of loss or damage to the publication, the user must replace it with the same document, or reimburse its market value;
  • users are expected not to violate the order of books on shelves;
  • users should keep silence at the Scientific Agricultural Library rooms;
  • they must not violate the rules of using computers.
