During the internship, the following activities were carried out: vaccination of cattle against IBR, PI-3, BVD, RSV, rota-, corona-, and adenovirus infections using the inactivated vaccine Combovac A; blood sampling from calves for serological testing in the laboratory; and diagnosis of trichophytosis in calves. In addition, with the participation of the farm’s chief veterinarian, Lina Boychenko, a master class was held on the topic “Bloodless Castration of Bulls Using Elastration.” Elastration is a bloodless method of castrating male farm animals by placing a high-elasticity rubber ring around the neck of the scrotum with the testes. Organizers of the event: the Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Infectious and Invasive Diseases — Head of the Department, Candidate of Veterinary Sciences N.A. Leshchyova; Professor, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences V.I. Pleshakova; Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, Associate Professor I.G. Alekseeva; and Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, Associate Professor A.V. Koneva. The session was conducted by Associate Professor of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Infectious and Invasive Diseases, Candidate of Veterinary Sciences I.G. Alekseeva.
Aim: to provide fundamental professional training for veterinary specialists.
Tasks: to enhance professional competence in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious and invasive diseases of ruminants, as well as issues of reproduction and surgical diseases of ruminants, in accordance with the relevant disciplines of the educational program.
Outcomes: the session was attended by 12 4th- and 5th-year students, who gained skills in intramuscular administration of inactivated vaccines to animals, techniques of blood sampling from the jugular vein (in calves), and methods of clinical diagnosis of trichophytosis in cattle. They also mastered the technique of bloodless castration of bulls using elastration.
