First steps of schoolchildren into student science

At the Department of Land Management, as part of career guidance and research work for schoolchildren, a school science club “Land Management and Cadastres” was opened in September. The club is headed by Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Head of the Department of Land Management Larisa Nikolaevna Gilyova.

On November 5, a meeting of the school science club “Land Management and Cadastres” was held at the Faculty of Land Management of Omsk State Agrarian University under the leadership of Larisa Nikolaevna Gilyova.

The meeting took place at Gymnasium No. 19 in Omsk and was attended by schoolchildren from grades 4–5: Saveliy Matveev, Rodion Shulgat, Anton Metzler, Vladimir Isupov, Arseniy Chaplin, Ivan Bagnyuk, Maksim Koptsev, Ivan Khaidukov, and Pavel Orlov. The session on the topic “UAVs. Obtaining spatial information about the Earth” was conducted by Sairan Adilbekovich Baltabekov, assistant at the Department of Land Management, together with 2nd-year students Vyacheslav Bogatyrev and Semyon Storozhenko.

At the same time, training sessions were organized for students of grades 7–8 to select participants for the regional school competition in unmanned aerial vehicle operation “Agrocopters”, which will be held on November 6 and 13 at Omsk SAU.

Pupils showed great enthusiasm, eagerly piloted UAVs themselves, and worked hard to complete the tasks correctly. They asked many questions: “When will the next club session be?”, “What will we do at the club?”, “Can we invite other classmates?”

Sairan Adilbekovich and Larisa Nikolaevna answered all their questions, announced the next topic, and invited everyone to participate in the upcoming session, as well as planned a visit to the Museum of the History of Geodesy and Land Management at Omsk SAU on November 27.

The older students showed a responsible attitude toward preparing for the regional competition and continued training tirelessly for an hour and a half. We wish them success at the “Agrocopters” regional contest!

The opening of the school club at Gymnasium No. 19 in Omsk and the involvement of high school students in the “Agrocopters” competition aim to engage schoolchildren in scientific life: preparing electronic presentations, and developing the skills to present research directions at school conferences, which are organized annually by the Faculty of Land Management.
