Intercultural Dialogue and Russian Language Practice at Omsk SAU: A Hub for International Students

On January 24, the International Cooperation Department of the Omsk SAU International Relations Office once again became a hub of activity, hosting an intercultural dialogue and Russian language practice session. The event brought together current university students and international applicants from Bangladesh, Benin, Cameroon, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Tunisia.

Aleksandr Medvedev and Vasilisa Kuznetsova, students from the Faculty of Agrotechnology, spoke about the traditions of winter festivities in Russia. A major event for all students is, of course, Student's Day. Anastasia Zagorenko, a graduate student at Omsk SAU, gave a presentation on student life, as well as the prospects and opportunities available for international students. Armel Leroy Subyeu and Casey-Jennifer Kenfack, from Cameroon, shared an interesting talk about the traditions and culture of their homeland. Mohamed Amine Ben Saad, from Tunisia, presented the culture and customs of his country. Applicants from Benin, Nigeria, Indonesia, and India, introduced the attendees to some of the most significant winter customs in their countries.

The meeting was attended for the first time by Akylas Vihouanou Emme, a student from Benin who arrived in Omsk in January to study Russian at the preparatory faculty. He was given a tour of the university campus and had lunch in the Omsk SAU student canteen.

International applicants had the opportunity to ask questions about the entrance exams from students who had successfully completed the selection process and were offered admission to Omsk SAU.

To conclude the meeting, the future Omsk SAU students learned their first few Russian words, counted from 0 to 10, and watched a short film in Russian. The event ended with a friendly tea party and photo session.

The International Cooperation Department invites all students to join future events at the Intercultural Student Center, as they offer excellent opportunity for English language practice, as well as a great chance to gain new knowledge and make new friends.

Participants shared their impressions:

Mohamed Amin Ben Sad (Tunisia):

"I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to enrolling at Omsk State Agrarian University."

Soubeu Armel Leroy (Cameroon):

"I am very glad I could join the meeting and talk about the culture and traditions of my country. It was very pleasant and useful to learn more about Russian culture and traditions, as well as to learn a few Russian words and phrases."

Drubashish Sen (Bangladesh):

"Thank you very much. It was a pleasure to meet the guests and students from other countries. This was a good opportunity to start learning Russian and get acquainted with the culture and traditions of Russia."
