Interuniversity scientific and intellectual event "Scientific Battle"

On December 5, the interuniversity scientific and intellectual event "Scientific Battle" took place at the Center for Youth Initiatives of the Omsk State Agrarian University. Omsk Agrarian University has gathered young scientists on its site for the second time.

The scientific battle was held within the framework of a grant for the implementation of activities aimed at supporting student scientific communities. The purpose of the event is to develop students' intellectual and creative abilities, interest in research activities, and popularize scientific achievements among young people.

The event was organized by the Council of Young Scientists, the Student Scientific Association, and the Omsk State Agrarian University Research Department.

Representatives of 6 universities of Omsk took part in the battle: Omsk State Agrarian University named after P.A. Stolypin, Omsk State Pedagogical University, Omsk State University of Railways, Omsk State Medical University, Omsk State Technical University, Siberian State Automobile and Road University. The team members were supported by their fans.

The Battle of wits was evaluated by the jury members, who presented the participating universities:

• Chairman of the Jury, Director of the Omsk State Agrarian University Business Incubator, Associate Professor of Economics, Accounting and Financial Control at the Faculty of Economics, Doctor of Economics, Vitaly Y. Epanchintsev;

• Associate Professor of the Department of Plant Protection of Novosibirsk State Agrarian University, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists, PhD. Biol. sciences Selyuk Marina Pavlovna;  

• Gleb Romanovich Ermachkov, Head of the Department of Scientific and Innovative Activities of Students and Young Scientists at Omsk State University of Railways, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Electric Power Supply of Railway Transport, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists, Candidate of Technical Sciences;    

Associate Professor of the Department of Project Management and Information Modeling in Construction, Siberian State Automobile and Highway University Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution, Candidate of Technical Sciences Oksana Alekseevna Rychkova;

• Assistant of the Department of Radio Engineering Devices and Diagnostic Systems at OmSTU Chernysheva Nadezhda Sergeevna;

• Denis Grigorievich Belyakov, Chairman of the Scientific Society of Young Scientists and Students of the Medical university, member of the Council of young scientists of Medical and Pharmaceutical Organizations of Higher Education and Science of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.   

The event included 3 contests:

1) "Homework". During this competition, team members presented any scientific achievement or scientific discovery using the capabilities of artificial intelligence technologies (neural networks). The team members showed videos about various achievements of scientists, accompanied by interesting, sometimes funny, comments. Other teams tried to guess what they were talking about.

2) "Scientific team competition". During the competition, the teams had to demonstrate their skills in writing a press release about a scientific study presented by the moderator of the event. The teams took a very creative approach to preparing the press release, and according to experts, who were represented by Olga Vladimirovna Butyrskaya, editor-in-chief of the Public Relations sector of Omsk State Agrarian University, and Roman Andreevich Astanin, head of the student media Service of Omsk State Agrarian University, the Siberian State Automobile and Road University team prepared the best press release.  

3) The final competition was held in an unusual form – "Scientific stand-up" (homework). The representatives of the teams told about their research, including elements of self-irony and humor in their speech. The competition was held in a light, cheerful atmosphere.

According to the results of the scientific battle, the places were distributed as follows:

1st place – the Medical university team;

2nd place – Omsk State Agrarian University team;

3rd place – Omsk State Technical University team. The Omsk State Technical University team received a special "Audience Award".  

At the end of the event, the team members and the jury members shared their impressions of the competitions with great pleasure. The non-standard format of the scientific competition allowed us to demonstrate modern science from a new, more informal and creative side.
