Omsk SAU Improves Its Standing in the UI Green Metric World University Ranking

For five consecutive years, Omsk State Agrarian University has participated in the UI Green Metric World University Ranking. This ranking evaluates universities’ commitment to sustainable development and the creation of eco-friendly campus environments. It is based on survey results concerning current conditions and policies related to sustainability efforts and institutional improvements at universities worldwide.

In 2024, the ranking assessed 1,477 universities from 95 countries. Despite the growing competition (300 more universities took part this year compared to 2023), Omsk SAU continues to strengthen its position, demonstrating its dedication to sustainable development and environmental safety.

This year, Omsk SAU was ranked 553rd globally among the world’s most environmentally friendly universities. The university was awarded a UI Green Metric certificate in recognition of its significant progress in building and managing world-class sustainable campuses. Among Russian universities, Omsk SAU holds the 14th position. For comparison, in 2023 the university ranked 615th globally and 21st nationally. Among Russian agrarian universities, Omsk SAU also advanced, moving up to 4th place.

The ranking evaluates universities across the following categories: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water, transportation, and education & research. Points are awarded based on submitted evidence for each category.

Omsk SAU demonstrated its best results in the following categories:

Energy and climate change – 800 points (an increase of 25 compared to last year);

Waste management – 1,575 points (compared to 1,200 in 2023);

Water resources – 550 points (an increase of 250 compared to 2023).

The university’s performance in the transportation category remained stable, with 1,150 points awarded.

Overall, Omsk SAU achieved 6,525 points across all six categories, nearly 600 points higher than in the previous year.
