Open Day at Omsk SAU

On November 23, Omsk SAU warmly opened its doors to future applicants. For one day, school students from the city and region had the chance to become students of our university.

Open Day is a traditional event held several times a year at the university.  Its purpose is to help young people decide on their future profession and learn about the conditions of higher education. Above all, it is a celebration for both teachers and students, an opportunity to get acquainted with the university and receive useful information about admission and studies.

“Try!   Choose! Learn!” — under this motto, Omsk SAU hosted its Open Day. Each year, the organizers strive to make the event more engaging and informative.  Volunteers and staff warmly welcomed guests right at the entrance, guided them around, handed out brochures, and ensured a cheerful atmosphere.

In the foyer of the university’s second building, student organizations greeted visitors, spoke about their activities, and held interactive games.  The university’s beloved mascot, Gosha the Crocodile, became the highlight of the event.  He strolled through the foyer, happily posing for photos with school students and their parents. In the assembly hall, guests were welcomed by Oksana Shumakova, Rector of Omsk SAU, Doctor of Economics, Professor, and Honored Worker of the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Russian Federation.
Afterwards, students introduced all the faculties, spoke about the university, its history, and the wide opportunities in education, research, creativity, and sports that the country’s leading agricultural university offers.

As tradition goes, every faculty hosted its own interactive station.   Here, visitors could immerse themselves in the atmosphere of their future profession and student life, as students passionately shared insights into their fields of study.  Schoolchildren took part in a real student quest, attending classes, talking with students, and discovering new things. They enjoyed exciting workshops, professional trials, quiz games, engaging training sessions, and thought-provoking discussions.

During the quest, participants collected their first “credits,” and at the end of the day, they received what was almost like a real “student ID.”

Every guest left with a prize from Gosha the Crocodile, thanks to a win-win lottery. The gifts were provided by the university’s partners: Shchelkovo Agrohim JSC, Ruskom Group, PRODO Group, Rosvodokanal Omsk, Terplanproekt, and, of course, “Cinnamon Bun.”

Omsk SAU sincerely hopes that the Open Day proved useful, giving future applicants the chance to get acquainted with the university, its programs, and to have their questions answered.  We look forward to welcoming future students in June — at the start of the admission campaign at the agricultural university.

Participants shared their impressions: Alina Krestinskaya Secondary School:
