Scientific Seminar on Modern Aspects of Veterinary Microbiology and Immunology

On February 21, the Omsk Agrarian Research Center hosted a scientific seminar on Modern Aspects of Veterinary Microbiology and Immunology for second-year students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, group C-22VET, majoring in Veterinary Medicine.

The seminar was organized by the faculty members of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Infectious and Invasive Diseases, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Omsk State Agrarian University: N.A. Leshchyova, T.I. Lorengel, and I.N. Koshkin.

The seminar was attended by researchers of the Department of Veterinary Science, including: Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, and Head of the Laboratory of Epizootology and Tuberculosis Control V.S. Vlasenko; Candidate of Biological Sciences, Leading Researcher N.A. Dengis; Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, Senior Researcher E.A. Vishnevsky; Junior Researcher K.A. Barmina; Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Animal Husbandry, Leading Researcher N.N. Novikova; Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, Head of All-Russian Research Institute of Brucellosis and Tuberculosis of Animals, Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Ecology A.N. Novikov; Candidate of Biological Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Diagnostic Studies, Leading Researcher P.V. Arzhakov; and Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, Senior Researcher E.A. Kosobokov.

The seminar began with a tour of the museum of the All-Russian Research Institute of Brucellosis and Tuberculosis of Animals, part of the Omsk Agrarian Research Center. During the tour, students learned about the history of the institute, from its origins as a veterinary bacteriological laboratory to its development and integration into the Omsk Agrarian Research Center.

The researchers provided detailed explanations of the safety regulations for working with microorganisms of pathogenicity groups II–III, as well as the requirements for equipping microbiological laboratories, including biological protection systems and protocols for handling pathological materials.

Students were also presented with a thorough analysis of the structure and classification of viruses and bacteria that cause infections in farm animals and poultry. The scientists explained the mechanisms of cellular immune responses in animals and their importance in combating chronic infections.

The seminar gave future veterinarians an opportunity not only to deepen their theoretical knowledge but also to understand how to apply it in real-world conditions.
