Students of the Faculty Begin Training for a New Profession within a Grant Project in Cooperation with the Russian Student Brigades

On October 28, thirty students began training in the working profession “Veterinary Animal Treatment Operator, Grade 5.”

The grant operator for the training program is the All-Russian Youth Public Organization “Russian Student Brigades.” The grant was awarded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The professional field of program graduates includes the organization and performance of auxiliary work related to providing veterinary care to animals at agricultural, livestock, and other enterprises and institutions where veterinary services are carried out.

Objects of professional activity for the Veterinary Animal Treatment Operator include:

• productive, laboratory, and domestic animals;

• veterinary medicines, biological preparations, cultures, and media;

• raw materials, products, and biological waste of animal origin.

During the course of training, the following topics will be studied: carrying out work during mass preventive and therapeutic-diagnostic veterinary procedures; disinfection, disinsection, and deratization of facilities and areas; and performing selected surgical manipulations.

The total training duration is 180 hours.

The program curriculum includes the following professional disciplines:

1. Introduction to the Profession

2. Basics of Animal Anatomy, Physiology, and Ethology

3. Hygiene of Animal Care

4. Fundamentals of Organizing and Conducting Disinfection Work

5. Basics of Necropsy Techniques and Methods of Animal Postmortem Examination

6. Basics of Animal Disease Diagnostics

7. Technology of Drug Administration and Fundamentals of Pharmacology

8. Professional Hygiene in Working with Animals

9. Preparation of Surgical Instruments and Materials

The training is conducted at the departments of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology (IVMiB), Omsk SAU. The program is delivered by teaching staff holding higher education degrees relevant to their disciplines. Classes are taught by candidates of veterinary sciences: Igor Viktorovich Yakushkin, Dmitry Valentinovich Mashnin, Vitaly Vyacheslavovich Shitikov, Natalya Borisovna Dovgan, Ekaterina Sergeevna Dochilova, Anastasia Yuryevna Nadtochiy, Emma Vladimirovna Badanova, and Maksim Vasilievich Koshkaryov.

On October 31, the first course module — “Basics of Animal Anatomy, Physiology, and Ethology” (instructor: Emma Vladimirovna Badanova) — was successfully completed.

Students participating in the project, who have joined the student brigade, will acquire valuable practical skills beyond their main specialty and will receive a certificate of professional qualification as early as June. In the summer, student brigade members who successfully pass the qualification exam will be awarded a diploma confirming their newly acquired working profession and will embark on their third labor semester at leading livestock enterprises of the region.
