Young Scientists from the Agrarian Scientific Center and Omsk SAU Share Their Research Developments

On January 30, on the eve of Russian Science Day, the annual roundtable "Agrarian Science of the Future – Science of the Young" for young scientists from the agrarian university and the scientific center was held at the Selection and Genetics Center of the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution "Omsk Agrarian Scientific Center" (Omsk ASC).

First, a tour of the main laboratories of the Selection and Genetics Center was organized for the roundtable participants. Young scientists from the Omsk State Agrarian University (Omsk SAU) visited the plant immunity laboratory, molecular genetics research laboratory, and reproductive biotechnology laboratory. The meeting participants were told about the research conducted in these laboratories and introduced to the latest equipment. After the tour, the participants proceeded to the main part of the event – the roundtable discussion.

Welcoming remarks to the roundtable participants were made by the Director of FSBSI "Omsk ASC", Candidate of Technical Sciences Maxim Sergeevich Chekusov, and the Rector of Omsk SAU, Doctor of Economic Science Oksana Viktorovna Shumakova. After greeting the attendees, the leaders noted the importance and significance of such events for young scientists. They emphasized that the successes of each researcher contribute to the image of the scientific institution and the university, and also highlighted the importance of cooperation between young scientists from Omsk SAU and Omsk ASC.

The chairpersons of the Councils of Young Scientists of Omsk SAU, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Natalia Nikolaevna Zharkova, and of Omsk ASC, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Artem Yurievich Timokhin, presented reports on the activities of their respective councils. In her speech, Natalia Nikolaevna spoke about the competitions in which young scientists from Omsk SAU participated in 2024, as well as the main events held with the participation of the Council of Young Scientists.

Associate Professor of the Department of Agronomy, Selection, and Seed Production at Omsk SAU, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Tatiana Vladimirovna Marakaeva, in her speech, shared the experience of implementing a Russian Science Foundation (RSF) grant for fundamental scientific research and exploratory research by small individual scientific groups: "Research on phenotypic and genotypic features of suitability for mechanized harvesting of lentil varieties and lines, identification of sources, and creation of source material for breeding in Western Siberia."

The Head of the Department of Microbiology at Omsk ASC, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Natalia Nikolaevna Shuliko, spoke about comprehensive work within the framework of a grant from the RSF Presidential Program for Research Projects. Under Natalia Nikolaevna's guidance, a group of young scientists is developing technologies for the application of microbiological preparations to preserve soil fertility and reduce pesticide load.

The main results of innovative activities in the area of leguminous, vegetable, and underutilized crops at Omsk SAU were presented by Senior Lecturer of the Department of Horticulture, Forestry, and Plant Protection at Omsk SAU, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Olga Andreevna Kotsyubinskaya.

The final report, "Results and Prospects of Implementing the Project to Create Youth Laboratories at FSBSI 'Omsk ASC'," was delivered by Research Specialist at Omsk ASC Evgeny Alexandrovich Shtabel. He spoke about two laboratories—Molecular Genetics Research and Reproductive Biotechnology—which were opened at Omsk ASC as part of the national project "Science and Universities."
