Jean Monnet Module participants held a hackathon "Developing a Financial Behaviour Model"

The hackathon was held as part of a Jean Monnet module "European practice of developing digital financial services in rural areas: knowledge and inclusion". Its purpose was to form small and medium-sized agribusiness financial behavior patterns in various situations by using financial digitalization tools. Five teams consisting of 4th year students from the Faculty of Economics took part in the event. The jury included Omsk SAU teachers and invited experts:

  • Denis Sergeyevich Plugarev, Deputy Head of the Department for the Development of the Сorporate Sales Channel of the Omsk Regional Branch of JSC Rosselkhozbank;
  • Valery Mikhailovich Emelianenko, Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Analysis, Forecasting and Financial Recovery of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Omsk Region;
  • Inna Anatolyevna Volkova, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Economics;
  • Oleg Anatolyevich Blinov, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Head of the Department of Economics, Accounting and Financial Control.

Each team worked with a case from rural business representatives. When presenting the results, the teams had to cover the following issues:

  • characteristics of a customer and the situation analysis;
  • directions of using digitalization of financial services to solve the case;
  • financial effect that one of the proposals on the use of digitalization of financial services to solve the case has.

At the final stage, all teams were given a business situation. They had to consider the barriers and possibilities of using the digitalization of finance when dealing with it.

Experts noted that this event was useful for educational purposes, They also emphasized the importance of popularizing digital finance tools for small and medium-sized businesses in rural areas.

Diana Anisimova:

"It was interesting to see the methods of solving cases using digital tools that other teams offered, and to note other opportunities for digitalizing financial services for businesses in rural areas. Experts' opinion was especially valuable for us, as they advised on improving our desicions. This event allowed us to look at the potential of using the digitalization of finance to solve the problem from different angles. Also, it gave us teamwork experience, and we trained to quickly find information to solve a particular situation in a short period of time."

Anastasia Gordeeva:

"Thanks to the hackathon, I learnt more about myself, as well as about my weaknesses and strengths. Trying to get rid of my weaknesses and develop strengths will make me better. Later it will be easier to participate in such events and deal with similar cases. On behalf of our team, I want to thank organizers for this excellent hackathon, the experience was very useful."
